Volunteer with Us
At Deep Griha, we are very enthusiastic about getting both local and international volunteers involved with our programmes. Volunteering provides a great opportunity for you to help the underprivileged, gain hands-on experience of development and empowerment, and meet people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
It is important to stress that volunteers are here to support staff, not replace them. The work you carry out as a volunteer depends largely on your own skills and interests, on what projects are running at the time of your placement and where DGS most needs help.
In the past, international and local volunteers have helped in areas such as:
- Fundraising through event management
- Childcare in the creches and balwadis at Tadiwala Road and Ramtekadi
- Teaching English and computer skills to the Deep Griha staff, as well as in the Youth Empowerment and Women’s Empowerment programmes
- Raising awareness for our DISHA’s HIV & AIDS numerous campaigns
- Working with 'Wake Up Pune', DISHA's HIV & AIDS outreach programme
- Bringing whole new concepts and ideas to existing programmes (such as drama classes at DIYA in Ramtekdi).
- Doctors (Marathi/Hindi speaking) to support medical teams in slums across the city, helping run drop-in clinics and conducting health check ups on children in our sponsorship programme.
- Dietitians to help Deep Griha combat malnutrition in the local community by supporting local staff, providing individuals with dietary advice and delivering educational workshops in the community
- A Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, coordinate and engage both local and international volunteers.
- Web and graphic designers to contribute to the design and implementation of promotional material.
- Civil Engineer to oversee construction of the primary school Phase 1 at Vidyanagri.
Deep Griha are happy to be flexible in adjusting schedules and are keen to shape the posts around the individual preferences of volunteers. Whilst the above profiles show specific jobs and skill requirements, we are delighted to welcome people of all backgrounds and skills types. Given the size of our organisation, anybody who has the drive and dedication to want to volunteer can contribute in some way to the life changing work we do.
To interact with past and current volunteers, please feel free to post your comments on our Facebook page, where you can learn about our day-to-day activities. We have some case studies of past volunteer experiences on our website, so follow the links below to read their stories.
We constantly upload photographs of our programmes and events to our Flickr photo album so check it out for a better idea of where we work and how we help.
To get a better understanding of where you will live, the possible locations where you will work, and the pace of life in Pune, please download our Volunteer Handbook and Volunteer Agreement and Policy.
